Thank you for visiting my blog. I’d love for you to pull up a chair, get comfy, and stay a while. As you have wandered into my blog, I am going to assume you are a teacher or a geek (maybe both).
Let me introduce you to my family. The red-head is me, Misty Long. Next to me is my husband, Victor. My two children, Kaylenea and Jonathan stand behind me. Behind them, is my (future) son-in-law and sister (by heart, not blood). Mickey Mouse is there, because my sweet nephew decided to pay a visit in spirit to our family pictures. He passed away a couple years ago, but loved Mickey Mouse. For no reason whatever, Mickey Mouse got tossed into the room while we were getting pictures taken. Obviously, my nephew wanted to be in the picture too.
So you may be thinking, what can this blog help me do. At the time of writing this, the answer is nothing. By the time you have found my page and started reading, I hope you will be able to find information about my classroom, technology for use in the classroom, and some other geeky stuff I want to talk about.
This is my fourth year of teaching. Wow, it doesn’t feel like that long. I went back to school in my thirties to get my teaching degree and licence. I had always wanted to be a teacher, but because I started a family young I went into computers to better support my family. Well, after years in the industry, I realized I was miserable and not making the money I had been told I would make. So I decided to be happy and poor, instead of miserable and poor.
Getting my teaching degree is one of the best decision I have made, other than becoming a mother. Even though teaching takes a lot more of my time, I feel like I am where I am supposed to be. My strength is teaching the younger kids, but last year I accepted a position as a technology teacher. That means I see 300+ students a week in grades K-8. Learning names is a pain!!!
If I am not doing school or parenting work, I am reading, writing, gaming, or in front of my sewing machine. I love to read supernatural romances and write fanfiction. I also enjoy tabletop gaming – including board games and role-playing games. I also love to sew costumes. Me and my children all cosplay (mainly me and my daughter, but my son on occasion.) If this term cosplay confuses you, it is simply what it sounds like. I play the roles of my favorite characters (made up by me or others) while wearing a costume.
